Medium Term Accommodation

Medium-term accommodation:

• Exclusively covers housing accommodations.
• Offered in conjunction with the participant’s informal support and NDIS-funded support.
• Funding is contingent upon the assurance of a permanent housing solution. This may include scenarios such as the availability of a Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) rental or the participant’s pending transition to a private home or a change in rental property.

In general, NDIS funds medium-term housing support for participants awaiting disability-related support and:

• Leaving a hospital, rehabilitation, aged care home, or nursing home requiring temporary housing assistance before moving to a confirmed long-term housing solution.
• Living in other housing arrangements that are unsustainable due to disability effects and have identified long-term housing solutions.

NDIS generally does not fund medium-term housing assistance.

• If the participant is on the public housing or condominium waiting list. This does not apply if the rental offer has been confirmed by a local housing provider or state office of housing but the participant is unable to move in due to other disability assistance awaiting.
• If a participant requires short-term accommodation (STA) that includes recreation.
• Responding to a crisis or rapidly changing situation, unless the participant is awaiting the provision of disability-specific support and has confirmation of a long-term housing solution.
• If the participant does not require disability-related support associated with long-term housing solutions.
